Dulce María García Calix comes from Aldea Veracruz, a village in the Comayagua region of Honduras. Her father works hard as a bricklayer and farm laborer, but steady income is difficult to come by in rural Honduras, and providing for a family on that kind of work is a daily struggle.

At the City of Refuge, Dulce is thriving. She loves playing tag with her friends, her favorite color is red, and she will happily tell you that apples are the best fruit there is.

Dulce dreams of standing at the front of a classroom herself one day: she wants to be a professor. She is in school full time now, and every month of sponsorship keeps her learning, growing, and moving toward that goal.
