Jose Esau is the oldest son in his family, raised by his father after his mother abandoned them. Getting an education meant walking roughly two hours to reach school, a trek that would defeat most adults, let alone a boy doing it on an empty stomach.

At the City of Refuge, Jose Esau’s classroom is minutes away and his plate is always full. The staff will tell you what kind of young man he is: he is known for being helpful with the younger children, an older brother to the whole community. When there is free time, he is out on the soccer field.

Jose Esau wants to become a doctor. He already has the heart of one, and sponsorship gives him the education to match it.
