Marcos grew up in a one-room house shared by ten people, with no electricity, no septic system, and no running water. It is hard to study, sleep, or simply be a kid in conditions like that.

At the City of Refuge, Marcos has space, light, clean water, and a bed of his own. He spends his free time doing what he loves best: playing soccer with the other boys.

There is a lovely symmetry in Marcos’s dream: the boy who grew up without electricity wants to become an electrician. Sponsorship keeps him fed, schooled, and on track to one day bring light to houses like the one he came from.
