Santos grew up in a coffee-producing community where work only exists for three to four months of the year, during harvest. The rest of the year, families like his simply have no income, and that seasonal cycle traps whole villages in extreme poverty.

At the City of Refuge, Santos has traded uncertainty for routine, and he uses it well. He enjoys studying every single day, which is not something every fifteen-year-old will admit, and he burns off the rest of his energy on the soccer field.

Santos wants to become an electrician, a skilled trade that would break the seasonal cycle for good. With the City of Refuge behind him and a sponsor beside him, that future is within reach.
